This monumental legislation paved the way for Alaska to officially be admitted as the 49th U.S. state on January 3, 1959, culminating decades of advocacy by territorial leaders - The push for statehood had long been championed by key political figures, notably Delegate E.L. The Hudson's Bay Company subsequently renamed the outpost Fort Stikine, 1924: The U.S. Congress passed the Indian Citizenship Act, granting American citizenship to all Native Americans born within the U.S. This had a profound impact on Alaska Native populations, extending their voting rights while recognizing their sovereign tribal affiliations, 1974: KISS performed at the Sundowner Drive-In Theater in Anchorage. Because of the Alaskan summer sun, the show started around 11:00 PM but still took place under a bright blue sky.
